Spelling and Grammar @ CPS
Spellings and Grammar in KS1
Spelling patterns and grammar in KS1 are taught through the phonics program. Children learn phonics in phases which build upon children's understanding of sounds and how they are represented in letters. Phonic phases (1-6) are progressive and aim to build children's speaking and listening skills as well as to prepare children to learn to read and write by developing their phonic knowledge and skills.
Hampshire Assessment Model - Spelling and Grammar Phase Expectations Y1-Y6
In our teaching of spellings and grammar, links will be made with phonics, reading and writing so that children acquire a wide vocabulary, an understanding of grammar and knowledge of linguistic conventions for reading, writing and spoken language.
Spelling Shed @ CPS
Spelling and word knowledge are key components in the process of learning to read and write. Spelling Shed makes the acquisition of these key skills fun and engaging for pupils.
The game aspect of Spelling Shed ensures that children are engaged and eager to practise spellings. Games and quizzes are used as part of homelearning and PLT practise tasks in school.
