Love to write - learn to write @ CPS

Writing @ CPS

Children at CPS are taught to write for pleasure and purpose using a range of styles and genres. Wherever possible, children write for PURPOSE with an AUDIENCE in mind. We use text drivers and quality books to create English Journeys to model to children how authors plan for and entertain the reader.

We look at writing both as an explicit subject and how writing also crosses the different curriculum areas.

We believe that good readers make good writers.

Early Writing expectations in YR

Literacy development involves encouraging children to read and write, both through listening to others reading, and being encouraged to begin to read and write themselves. Children are given access to a wide range of reading materials e.g. books, poems and other materials to ignite their interest.

Writing: Children use their phonic knowledge to write words in ways which match their spoken sounds. They also write some irregular common words. They write simple sentences which can be read by themselves and others. Some words are spelt correctly and others are phonetically plausible.
